Case Study – We Are Kindred
CLIENT: We Are Kindred is a Bohemiam Luxe label based on Oxford Street, Paddington Sydney, Australia & with an online presence through Shopify.
GOAL: Reduce median load page speeds throughout wearekindred.com.au from over 6 seconds on average to under 2 seconds.
RESULT: Page load speed decreased from 3.62 seconds to 1.02 seconds. Google page speed insights scores increased from 33 to 94 (+184%) on desktop & 7 to 68 on mobile (+871%). See before and after images.
Steps taken to improve speed and performance by Relevant Digital:
2) Eliminated render blocking resources – reduced HTTP requests from 163 to 32
3) Image resizing, compression & optimisation – Our team analysed all images loading on Shopify pages and helped We Are Kindred resize and optimise images. Larger images were optimized manually for best appearance, and smaller images, as well as product images, were optimised automatically with scripts.
4) Output compression – Dynamic output compression was found to delay first byte time and overall load speed and was disabled in favour of sending either a pre-compressed copy of the resource or an uncompressed copy based on what the browser is able to load.
5) App analysis & removal of old app code
We were a little hesitant at first, but our speed went from 13 to over 80 in a day and business is going amazing!
Our marketing agency even commented on how important this is to be competitive in the market.
